Stanley No. 10-1/2 Carriage Maker's Rabbet Plane
This 10-1/2 is so close to perfect we had to pinch ourselves to make sure we weren’t dreaming it during the photo shoot. Everything on it is like new, except then aged to perfection.
The patina is subtle and silky. The japanning is about as intact as it gets. The rosewood is out of this world. Nothing seems to be amiss anywhere on it.
And, on top of that, it gives off this confident yet friendly vibe. As if it’s reassuring you, “don’t worry—not my first rodeo—I’ve got this handled—you relax and have an iced tea.” What, exactly, it plans to handle while you drink iced tea is unclear. But presumably it has something to do with removing thin shavings of wood from the surfaces where two perpendicular boards meet, in that dark corner where closed-sided planes dare not go. Did we mention this 10-1/2 is fearless too?
Seriously beautiful plane.
