Really great chisel-edge plane with only tiny chipping on the leading edge under the cutter, which can probably be honed out. Most of these have much more significant damage on that edge. Otherwise, only light wear.
We’re not big on imposing “type” labels on planes. It seems like such a limiting belief to impose on a young plane with big dreams. The auction house that sold this to us said it was a type 2. We won’t argue because they’re probably right. We think, however, that if this plane wants to grow up to be a type 3, who are we to tell it that 2’s the end of the line for its potential? If it works hard and really applies itself, who’s to say it can’t achieve level 3 one day? They are levels, right? Like in Mario Brothers where the dragon-thing bad guys get bigger and more impervious to fireballs the farther you get?
Anyway, give this little-95-that-could a chance. It may surprise you and become a type 10 one day. Maybe even the first plane in space. Or the first plane elected to public office. Anything’s possible.
