Nice, clean and complete 5-1/4. Narrower version of the No. 5, same width as a No. 3. The 5-1/4 is having a popularity surge these days, perhaps thanks to a little-known Maine toolmaker recently releasing its own version.
The lever cap with this plane when it arrived at The Archive seemed fine until we removed it and tried to put it back on. The hole where the screw rests is oversized and looks like someone filed it for reasons unknown. It can be used, but the screw has to come out and then drop in from the top. Sliding into place the usual way won’t work. So we are including an extra lever cap with the plane that works as it should. See second-from-last photo. Oversized original on left.
