Stanley No. 103 Block Plane - "Type 1A"
The “1A” identified as the type isn’t an official type, but is a designation used among collectors to identify the first iteration of the first type of the 103 block plane. That’s what you’re looking at. Ain’t it grand? Distinguishing characteristics are the wood front knob, “Victorian” lever cap with narrow “waist”, a recessed “103” at the heel (partially visible for lack of contrast), an early narrow iron of about 1¼ inches, the earliest simple lever-type depth adjuster, early arched trademark and 1876 patent date on the iron. Production was approximately 1876–1883.
Everything on this one appears original and only lightly cleaned for debris and dirt with patina and age left undisturbed.
Ships to you excessively well-packed and insured, just in case.
