Great User Stanley Bed Rock 608 Jointer
This Bed Rock 608 has all original finishes and all the accompanying character of a plane that knows what it's like to work for a living. The japanning’s not perfect, but it’s also not black spray paint. The rosewood furniture has the dings and dents of shop life but has no cracks or repairs. Speaking of shop life, this plane has a small “37” stamped on each cheek, denoting its place in what must’ve been an impressive lineup of Bed Rocks with the numbers running that high. Finally, it has some tiny chips on the trailing edge of the mouth (where they won’t matter to anything) and a chip out of the edge where the sole meets the cheek on one side. The side chip looks localized (no damage radiating out, that we can see) and could probably use a swipe with a file just to make sure there’s no edge to catch anything. See the pics for more detail.
Destined to be a favorite user, this 608 is in overall excellent condition, and everything works as it should. As an added bonus, we’re including a nice long Hock iron that’ll kick this plane into high-performance gear real quick. (The single biggest performance boost you can get out of an old Stanley plane, in our humble opinion, is dropping in a thicker, modern-made cutting iron…but that’s a topic for that blog we don’t actually have).
