Yes, this is partially the same thing our other Type 11 listings say right now. Get over it. (just kidding).
Although we’re not big on “typing” planes*, we’d be remiss not to point out that this beauty appears to be a “Type 11.” In case you’ve been living in the real world where none of this hand plane stuff matters, at all, Type 11 has won the Crazy Plane Peoples’ Choice Award for “Best Type” for about 115 years running now since it debuted in 1910. And it shows no signs of slowing down as the crowd favorite.
This fantastic expression of the Type 11 vibe comes deluxe with a beautiful, dark patina and largely intact (though seemingly touched up) original Japanning. The Rosewood furniture is top-notch. For that matter, everything about this plane is top-notch. Damn good-looking plane.
Bonus: We put a new 25-degree hollow ground (Tormek) bevel on it with an extra-fine waterstone secondary bevel at 30. So it’s stupid sharp and ready to go.

*We certainly don’t begrudge you if type is important to you. It’s a great starting point if there’s a set of characteristics you’re looking for. But type studies are generalities, with exceptions galore. Then consider that we live in a world of Frankenstein planes, many pieced together and back together, with parts harvested from their brethren. Even a perfectly type-consistent plane could be built entirely of harvested parts and there’s generally no way to know. So, while we appreciate the type studies, we prefer not to place too heavy a reliance on them.
