Phenomenal Stanley No. 1
Generally speaking, the No. 1 bench plane is the holy grail of the Stanley bench planes and essential to any bench plane collection. After all, you can’t legitimately count to 8 by skipping 1—that’s cheating. But with the No. 1 in your collection, you can proudly count all the way up to a No. 8 jointer without missing a single integer. If that’s not heaven, we don’t know what is.
For all you Bed Rock collectors out there, you also need a No. 1 in your collection. Why? Because it’ll piss you off that Stanley never made a Bed Rock No. 1 every time you look at your plane till and see flat-topped Bed Rocks lined up like a perfect display, except for the one tiny outliner plane still sporting round sides like it didn’t get the memo that round sides are soooo last season. Why would you want to be pissed off at the glaring lack of uniformity the No. 1 introduces to a Bed Rock collection? Well, maybe you wouldn’t want that. But you’ll deal with it because that’s what being a Stanley plane collector is all about.
Our nonsensical musings aside, this No. 1 is really fantastic.
It’s a Type 8, with the sought-after “B” casting in the bed and on the lever cap.
All finishes appear original and in excellent condition.
Rosewood furniture is intact with no cracks or repairs. Just awesome.
The trademark on the iron is usually associated with Type 9, so it may not be the first one on the plane. But hey, close second at least.

Complete with all parts and everything works as it should.
