A. Mathieson & Son Infill Rebate Plane No. 849
This slender fellow comes in at 9” long with a 1” wide iron. That’s a 9:1 ratio for those of you following along at home. And we all know what a 9:1 ratio means on a rebate plane, right? Absolutely nothing. Moving on then, we suspect this was made by Norris for Mathieson, but don’t hold us to that theory. Has a Saracen mark and “steel” stamped at the edge of the sole, crack in the fill at the heel around the spalled strike button, and user names stamped in the wood. Some oxidation, but no pitting. If you want to cut 1” wide rabbets—or you just want to look at a plane that cuts 1” wide rabbets—this bad boy fits the bill.
