Knowles-Type Jack Plane
This Knowles-Type Jack plane is outrageously nice. 2-1/4” blade, Mathieson chipbreaker, 18” sole. Has a closed tote, a figural wood wedge, a tall knob with a brass insert, and mahogany fill at tote. Patina (oxidation) but almost no rust or pitting. Overall excellent condition.
A tid-bit about Knowles is that it was the earliest patent for a metallic plane in America. One distinctive feature of a Knowles patent plane was a raised metal tube in which the front knob would sit. Planes that otherwise had Knowles characteristics, but were not totally consistent with the patent have been dubbed Knowles-Type in the collector world. This is an outstanding Knowles-Type plane because it does not have that raised knob receiver. The makes of Knowles-Type planes are largely unknown.
Ships to you exceedingly well packed and insured, just in case.
