Unusual size on this awesome Spiers infill, coming in at 13-7/8”, or 13-13/16” depending how measured. The catalogues found in our research showed 13-1/2” and 14-1/2” as the closest sizes. Still, the design is a Spiers No. 1. Ward cap iron is probably original. Parallel Issac Greaves cutting iron likely not the first, but it’s possible because Spiers used various makes of irons over the years until it began branding its own.
Infill could either be rosewood or mahogany, with rosewood more common. It has darkened with age to the point where it’s hard to tell for sure without taking it down to bare wood. That’s a decision for its next owner.
