Stanley Bedrock No. 607-C Bench Plane (Jointer)
Before lavishing this plane with praise, we just need to be blunt and get something off our chests. The japanning is kinda ugly. There, we said it! Phew. Feels so much better getting that out in the open. Don’t you feel better now that we can talk openly about it?
Apart from the aforementioned japanning issue (which isn’t ugly so much as patchy…yeah, patchy), this is a gorgeous, earlier 607-C. It appears in entirely original (and wonderful!) condition, meaning no noticeable refurbishing or aggressive cleaning seems to have been done. No black paint slapped over this patchy japanning! See how we turned a negative into a positive just then?
Our recommendation: Use it casually when people visit you in your woodshop. It’ll make you look like you know what you’re doing—and like you have the hip but old-timey sensibility of a true craftsperson. (Not a warranty; results may vary).
